Review which social platforms you are on and eliminate the ones that no longer serve you.
For a while, many of us believed that if you wanted to be successful on social media, you needed to be on every platform. Unnnnntil we quickly realized that having a Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, Instagram, YouTube Channel, and Periscope was overwhelming, and frankly, wasn’t doing much to bring in business.
Social media is a great way to connect with and build a relationship with your audience, but the key to success is consistency. So instead of spreading yourself too thin, try focusing on one or two that are actually relevant to your business and its following. Ask yourself, “Where are my customers spending most of their time?” And if the answer isn’t Twitter, then get. off. twitter.
Remember, the biggest benefit of social media is your ability to ENGAGE your audience. So make sure you’re choosing the platforms that provide you with the best opportunity to do so. And while for us that’s Facebook and Instagram, that might not be true for you, and that’s 100% OK.
It’s better to choose a few social platforms that will be of the MOST benefit to your business and do them well rather than be a master of none.
Engage more than you post
When it comes to social media marketing, most of us spend too much time creating posts and not enough time engaging others on the platform. But if you want others to interact with your posts, it’s important to interact with theirs.
Think of it in the same sense as a traditional networking event. You can’t just stand in the corner expecting others to come up and talk to you, you have to make an effort to shake hands and make conversation. And chances are when you do, the more likely it is that someone you meet will do business with you. Social media works in the same way.
You cannot publish a post and expect others to interact with it. Instead, you need to budget time to like, comment, and share posts from other businesses in your feed. Not only will it help you maintain top-of-mind awareness with your audience, but you will also see increased levels of followers and engagement.
Create quality original content on a consistent basis
EVERY business has some sort of value they bring to the table that is unmatched by their competition and creating original content provides you a voice and a platform to share your expertise. However, content creation works best when it’s done with quality and consistency.
It’s great to have a blog, film videos, or create social media posts, but if you’re publishing mediocre content on a sporadic basis, you’re not going to get the reach and engagement you need to make it worth your time. Instead, you’ll be bogged down by algorithms and you won’t have an audience that sees you as a credible source.
The quality of your content is a direct reflection of the quality of your product/service. So if your photos are blurry, your status has misspelled words, or your video has bad audio, your audience will assume your products or service embody the same level of mediocrity (which is most likely not true what-so-ever, but how would they know otherwise?).
However, while putting an emphasis on quality will keep you from looking unprofessional if you want to effectively build trust with your audience and gain traction, you have to be consistent. Don’t publish 4 blog posts in October only to fall off the bandwagon and not publish another blog until December.
